Gum Treatment
Maintain healthy gums and a winning smile.
As the foundation of your smile, your gums provide crucial support and protection to your teeth, and are just as, if not more, important. The health of your gums is essential to your overall oral wellbeing.
When plaque and tartar are allowed to form in the mouth, the bacteria attacks the gum tissue and can cause gum disease to occur. Gum disease is easy to treat in the early stages, but can develop into a more serious condition called periodontitis if left untreated.

What is gum disease?
Plaque deposits can build up on the teeth due to food debris attracting bacteria. Most of this plaque is removed with regular brushing, but it can accumulate in hard to reach areas, particularly where your teeth meet the gums. This causes inflammation, resulting in gingivitis, an early stage of gum disease.
If left untreated, the gums start to recede, forming pockets between the gum and tooth which fill with plaque and bacteria. This is a more destructive stage, known as periodontitis, which cannot be reversed but can be controlled through maintenance. If left to continue unchecked, periodontitis can lead to tooth loss.
How can gum disease be treated?
Most cases of mild gum disease can be treated with regular visits to the hygienist, who will give your teeth and gums a deep clean to boost their health and condition. The hygienist also thoroughly assesses your teeth and gums at each appointment, treating signs of gum disease before it becomes too serious. This, combined with an excellent oral hygiene routine at home, can be extremely effective at keeping gum disease at bay.
